The river that flows through the heart of the city is one of the best places to take in the sheer beauty of London. You can explore the river on one of the many river boat services or enjoy a walk along the Southbank. It is possible to walk along the South embankment of the river. The nicest stretch of this walkway is between Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. Along this journey you can take in views of Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, HMS Belfast, London Bridge, Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, the Millennium Bridge, the Tate Modern art gallery, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. To walk upstream (from East to West) start at Tower Hill station where you will be able to take in views of the Tower of London as you walk downhill to Tower Bridge keep to the right hand side of the road as you walk over the bridge and look upstream for views of HMS Belfast. When you reach the Southbank turn right and walk towards HMS Belfast, you can then walk straight along the Southbank all the way to The London Eye and Houses of Parliament. At this point you may either cross the river (for Westminster Station) or to join Walk 2 or stay on the Southbank to access Waterloo station. Along the way it is possible to integrate St Paul’s Cathedral by crossing the Thames over the Millennium Bridge and then returning once finished.

Starting from Westminster Underground station as you exit you will see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Turning right you will see Westminster Abbey in the distance. Having seen Westminster Abbey turn back on yourself and walk left toward Birdcage walk. On your right you will see St. James Park, you can meander through the park on your way to Buckingham Palace. After some time at Buckingham Palace continue to the far right of the palace into Green Park walking straight up the park follow the signs to Green Park Underground Station. At Green Park station you will notice The Ritz Hotel. To continue the tour please skip to Walk Three.

Starting from Green Park Underground station walk along Piccadilly past The Ritz Hotel towards Piccadilly Circus. At Piccadilly Circus take some time to soak up your surroundings and take it all in before heading down Haymarket turning left when you reach Pall Mall Trafalgar Square will come into view, enjoy some time in the Square and perhaps visit the National Gallery before heading up St Martins Place toward Leicester Square. Leicester Square is home to the red carpet as many films chose this location for their Worldwide if not European premieres. There are handprints of famous celebrities sunken into the pavement around the square. Once you have finished exploring head out of the square on the same side that you entered and continue towards Covent Garden along New Row. Covent Garden is home not only to the Royal Opera House and London Transport Museum, but also many interesting shops and stalls for those interested in shopping. Once you have completed your walk around the area head up James Street for Covent Garden Underground station, where this tour ends.
